Amazon Web Services (AWS) are a hugely popular service for renting server time from Amazon. This reduces physical hardware management, which can be a time consuming task. This also reduces hardware costs, especially for intermittently used hardware. AWS can be used to spin up machines for peak demand and spin them back down when no longer required. It can also be used for large-sized or specialized systems for however long they are needed. AWS has a reputation as a low cost solution for hobbyists and small businesses, and Amazon indicates entire companies are running on their service.
Gibson Nichols will be leading an interactive discussion on Amazon Web Services (AWS). He'll show how to set up key pairs, and how to spin up / tear down AWS machines. He'll also cover static IP Addresses, as well as low cost data storage options.
Gibson Nichols is a Research Lead at Ford Motor Company
He runs the Innovation Lab, an environment used to encourage new experiments. He is also the President of Metro-Detroit Linux User Group (MDLUG.org). He has been using Linux since 1991.
