September 8th, 2015 – MUG Meeting
We meet at 6:30pm on the second Tuesday of each month at the Farmington Community Library.
Jim Arkison, a new member and new to Linux, started setting up a personal work computer with Linux (Fedora). Initially he had some help, but there are still some issues that need ironing out. He wants the new computer to run Linux as a host OS and then support Mac OSX and Windows XP in virtual machines. His needs require him to currently use all three OSes, but if Linux can be made to reliably sync to his iPhone then the Apple Virtual Machine might not be necessary.
It's an interesting problem and we need interested folks who have some experience with this sort of environment to help Jim get his computer working the way he'd like it to work.
Jim is going to bring the computer to the meeting and we will go through the setup to evaluate it and to hopefully get things running well for him.
In the past we sponsored a number of "Install Fests", but that is now a long time ago. This adds a twist of virtual machines and specific applications programs on those VMs, but that should make it more fun.
Please come ready to apply your system admin skills to a live case, or come ready to see other Linux users share their experience in getting Jim up and running.
Alternately if you are having trouble getting your machine running this might be an excellent time to bring your machine in to get some folks to take a look at it. We'll be concentrating on Jim's machine but may have time to work on a few other machines.
