April 12th, 2016 - MUG Meeting
We meet at 6:30pm on the second Tuesday of each month at the Farmington Community Library.
What if I told you there was an open source firewall that you could not only install on your own hardware but also purchase hardware to use. What if that firewall was based on the FreeBSD kernel and ran on Intel x86 and AMD64 hardware? And what if I told you this has existed since 2004? You might say "yes, we already know about pfSense" but what if I told you that in this very month Tom Lawrence would give a presentation about how to use pfSense at the April Michigan!/usr/group meeting? "I'm listening" you'd reply. Because this presentation is not only about how to use pfSense as a firewall but also how to install it from the ground up. "Go on" you say. What if I told you Tom will also present other uses for pfSense; VPN, intrusion detection, traffic shaping, and much more. And that pfSense is great for both home and business networking needs. "I need to know more" you ask, and I tell you to come to the meeting from 6:30pm on April 12th to watch Tom and learn for yourself about what pfSense can do for you with a live demo and more. "I wouldn't miss it" you say, and I smile. "I'll see you there" I reply, and vanish into the network.
Tom Lawrence has been working in the IT industry since 1994. In 2003 he opened Lawrence Systems (http://lawrencesystems.com). He is also a regular on the Saturday Morning Linux Review (http://smlr.us) and appears on several other podcasts, youtube videos, and more with a concentration on entrepreneurship and open source.
Plus we'll have our regular features: Jobs Looking for People, People Looking for Jobs, and much more! We'll also be meeting for dinner at Red Lobster in Novi after the meeting.
Hope to see you there!
