November 8th 2016 – MUG Meeting

November 8th 2016 - MUG Meeting

Regular MUG Meeting

We meet at 6:30pm on the second Tuesday of each month at the Farmington Community Library.

Topics Include:

"PAM is Un-American"
Pluggable Authentication Modules, or PAM. PAM is one of the most poorly understood topics in system administration, unlike any other Unix access control mechanism. For many sysadmins, touching PAM is like handling a live rattlesnake with your bare hands; you might get rid of the snake and make things better, or you might win a couple weeks in the hospital.
For Election Night 2016, Michael W Lucas will demystify PAM. You'll learn how PAM makes decisions, some common pitfalls, and how you can use PAM to actually simplify your network, your authentication, and your life. We'll have traditional PAM syntax, Linux-PAM's extended controls, interesting PAM modules, and more.

Bio: Michael W. Lucas is a critically-acclaimed author from Detroit, Michigan. He’s the “writes books” sort of author, not the “hire him to write your stuff” author. His non-fiction books include Networking for Systems AdministratorsFreeBSD Mastery: Storage EssentialsSudo Mastery, and Absolute OpenBSD, 2nd Edition. His latest book is "PAM Mastery".

Plus we'll have our regular features: Jobs Looking for People, People Looking for Jobs, and much more! We'll also be meeting for dinner at Red Lobster in Novi after the meeting.
