June 11th 2019 – MUG Meeting

Regular MUG Meeting

We meet at 6:30pm on the second Tuesday of each month at the Farmington Community Library.

Topics Include:

Anonymous Browsing

Have you ever wondered what it takes to be anonymous online? Tools like Tor and the Tails Linux Distribution are focused on that concept. But privacy and anonymity online is all about balance. Tools like Tor might be too much work for some people, but there are simple ways to "clean up" your digital footprint. Or, if you prefer to put on a dashing tin foil hat, there are ways to dive deep into the tools and practices required to keep your true Identity as safe as possible. Anonymity is important for many different folks: journalists, informants, security enthusiasts and even someone accessing their bank account. This talk will discuss the various tools useful for anonymous browsing. We'll explore what a digital footprint is, and how even something as simple as a connecting to your bank could leak information to governments, advertisers, hackers, and large technology companies such as Google or Facebook.

Lazaro Carroll is an IT Analyst with over 5 years of experience. His main experience is 2nd level support and PC deployments (small and large). Plus we'll have our regular features: Jobs Looking for People, People Looking for Jobs, and much more! We'll also be meeting for dinner at the Buddy's Pizza in Novi (44225 W 12 Mile Road, Novi, MI 48377) after the meeting.
