October 13th 2020 - MUG Meeting
We meet at 6:30pm on the second Tuesday of each month.
Private networks have become increasingly important. Virtual Private Networks can not only connect machines to office networks but can also be useful for redirecting traffic over geographic borders. But how do you get started with the, and what's the best way to configure them?
Scott Balneaves will present about OpenVPN. We'll discuss OpenVPN, how to set it up, and the two primary methods for interconnecting hosts: shared secret, and public key infrastructure. We'll outline both installation of OpenVPN, and easy-rsa, a suite of tools for generating your own self-signed certificates. We'll also cover clients for OpenVPN: OpenVPN for Windows, and TunnelBlick for Mac.
Scott Balneaves has been a systems administrator for his entire 30 year career in IT. Starting off at Great-West Life, then the University of Winnipeg, and finally, for the last 20 years at Legal Aid Manitoba, where he administers over 200 GNU/Linux desktops, and 25+ servers. He has been involved with several Free Software projects, including LTSP, Mate Desktop and OpenOffice.
Plus we'll have our regular features: Jobs Looking for People, People Looking for Jobs, and much more!
