Unix command line

In this months Unix Command Line session, Craig Maloney will be showing the head and tail utilities. We've found that if we allow 10 to 15 minutes to discuss a Unix/Linux command, it turns into an amazing conversation where everybody learns something new about the command, even if they've been using it for years.

LSB announcement

There's been some talk about the LSB (Linux Standard Base). We'll have a discussion about what this means and we'll compare this with other ideas, such as Free software release coordination as proposed by Mark Shuttleworth. Should be an interesting discussion.

Freegeek

Jim McQuillan was in Portland, Oregon a few weeks ago for the LTSP hackfest. The event was held at the Freegeek headquarters. Jim will spend a few minutes discussing the highlights of the Hackfest and then show a short video about the Freegeek organization. If you are interested in seeing how computers can be recycled, you won't want to miss this meeting.

Book giveaway

We've got 2 brand new books to give away this month. Current members have a chance to win a copy of "The Official Ubuntu Book" (including a dvd with Ubuntu 8.04 LTS) or Sams Teach Yourself "PHP, MySQL, and Apache"
