Flask (Python Web Framework) (December 11th 2018 – MUG Meeting)

December 11th 2018 - MUG Meeting

Regular MUG Meeting

We meet at 6:30pm on the second Tuesday of each month at the Farmington Community Library.

Topics Include:

Flask (Python Web Framework)

Building a website used to be so easy. All you needed was a LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and Perl) to get going. But things got complex. For a while it felt like everyone was re-inventing ways to put web pages onto web sites. Why couldn't it be small and simple again? In this talk we'll discuss Flask, a Python Micro Web Framework.  We'll start by positioning it within the web ecosystem and briefly comparing it to Django.  Next we'll dive into building a web application using Flask.  Starting simple we'll proceed to introduce templates, forms, user sessions, and finish up with error handling.  We'll conclude with next steps and interesting adjacent areas.

James Small is a Principal Architect consulting for large public, private, and government organizations.  He helps clients develop their technology strategy and roadmaps.  With over 20 years in the industry his experience also includes teaching networking and security at Macomb Community College as well as presenting at a variety of conferences and user groups.  When he's not focused on fusing infrastructure and development he enjoys running and spending time with his wife and two boys.

Plus we'll have our regular features: Jobs Looking for People, People Looking for Jobs, and much more! We'll also be meeting for dinner at the Buddy's Pizza in Novi (44225 W 12 Mile Road, Novi, MI 48377) after the meeting.
