Ansible (November 9th, 2021 - MUG Meeting)

This talk will focus on using Ansible Playbooks to automate deployment of various services. Topics covered will range from using Ansible to control local and remote machines, using the secure Ansible Vault to encrypt secrets used in Ansible Playbooks, storing common command line arguments into a configuration file, creating roles like database and appserver for separation of concerns as well as using a common role to store configuration to be used across many or all machines. Many Ansible concepts will be covered including: modules, tasks, templates, roles and variables. Some specific modules that will be discussed are synchronize, file, lineinfile, blockinfile, shell, command, service, package, git, copy and more!
Roller Angel spends most of his time helping people learn how to accomplish their goals using technology. He's an avid FreeBSD user and Pythonista who enjoys learning all the amazing things that can be done with Open Source technology, namely FreeBSD and Python, to solve issues. He's a firm believer that anyone can learn anything they wish to set their mind to. He uses FreeBSD and Python to learn more about computer technology and to assist himself with his many side projects which help him to automate and manage various aspects of his life.
